Subject: Invitation to Contribute to the International Symposium on AI in Higher Education
(Ankara, 11-12 May 2026)

Dear Colleagues,
The International Symposium on ‘Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education’ will be jointly organized by the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) and the Association of Academies and
Societies of Sciences in Asia (AASSA), with the support of the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP), and will take place in Ankara on 11-12 May 2026.

The rapid development of artificial intelligence is transforming many dimensions of higher education, including teaching and learning practices, research methodologies, academic collaboration, and institutional governance. While AI presents new opportunities for innovation and efficiency in universities, it also raises important questions concerning academic integrity, ethical responsibility, and the evolving role of higher education institutions in the knowledge society. The symposium aims to bring together representatives of national academies, scholars, and policy experts to discuss these emerging issues and to exchange perspectives on how AI can be responsibly and effectively integrated into higher education systems. Particular emphasis will be placed on international and regional cooperation, interdisciplinary research, and the development of appropriate governance and policy frameworks.
In this regard, we would be pleased to invite the member academies of AASSA and Euro- Mediterranean Academic Network (EMAN) to nominate one or two distinguished members who could actively serve as speakers. We particularly welcome nominations of individuals with expertise and a strong interest in shaping science policies that respond to the needs and aspirations of our diverse societies. Kindly find enclosed the concept note of the symposium for further information. We would appreciate receiving nominations through TÜBA (tuba.int@tuba.gov.tr), preferably by 5 April 2026.Jointly organized by the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) and the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia (AASSA) with the support of the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP)

Concept Note
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming the landscape of higher education worldwide. From teaching and learning methods to research practices, academic collaboration, and institutional governance, AI technologies are reshaping how knowledge is produced, disseminated, and evaluated. Universities are increasingly faced with both opportunities and challenges in integrating AI into their educational systems while ensuring academic integrity, ethical responsibility, and equitable access to technological resources.

Recognizing the global significance of these developments, TÜBA jointly with AASSA will organize the International Symposium on AI in Higher Education on 11-12 May 2026 in Ankara. The symposium aims to provide an international platform for scholars, science academies, and policy experts to discuss the transformative role of AI in higher education and to explore collaborative approaches for addressing emerging challenges.

The event will bring together representatives of national academies, researchers, and policy stakeholders especially from the Euro-Mediterranean and Asian regions. Particular attention will be given to interdisciplinary perspectives and regional cooperation in advancing responsible and effective use of AI in universities and research institutions.

The symposium will address different dimensions of AI in higher education, including academic cooperation across the Euro-Mediterranean region, the transformation of higher education systems in Asia, the role of AI in key scientific domains such as science, health, agriculture, risk, and environmental studies, and national policy perspectives on AI integration in universities.

Call for Papers

The organizers invite scholars, researchers, and experts affiliated with member academies and relevant institutions to submit paper proposals addressing the theme of AI in Higher Education. Contributions may address conceptual, policy-oriented, or applied perspectives and are expected to reflect the interdisciplinary nature of AI’s impact on universities and research systems.

Possible paper themes include, but are not limited to:

  1. AI and the Future of Higher Education Systems in Asia

  2. AI Integration in Universities: Opportunities and Challenges

  3. Regional Cooperation in AI Research and Education

  4. Building AI Talent and Skills for the Knowledge Economy
